A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced allegations of spreading untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A longstanding conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their legal filing contends that Owens ignored any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she taught at his secondary school.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
