The January transfer market is always a time of feverish rumour and potential major moves. Several notable players are being connected to moves out of their present teams. We examine some of the major figures who might be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to qualify for the AFCON, which has left the forward in contention, indications are a major transfer is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a substantial buy-out clause applicable for a short period at the start of the month. Latest reports indicate Manchester City have emerged as his signature. B. Johnson

The Wales winger has found starting minutes limited at Spurs this term. Although being the side's top scorer last season, Johnson has started just a small number of Premier League matches. It is understood the North London outfit is open to a transfer for the correct valuation, believed to be in the around forty million pounds. Rúben Neves

The Portugal midfielder might be set for a return to the English top flight following a spell in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spain that he would be willing to accept a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following the manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a winter exit seems increasingly probable. Villa were initially linked as a possible suitor, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing curiosity in the keeper.

This proven English centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the national World Cup. However, securing a deal presents major challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported huge weekly wages render any agreement complicated. C. Gallagher

As his existing contract nearing its end, a host of English sides – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy contract but are in a race to retain one of Europe's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

The much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but are facing strong competition from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
