Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to appear in the new Hunger Games series instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Comeback for the Franchise
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their roles will probably be featured in a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several accomplished actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the production schedule:
- Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
- Filming was completed in November of the same year.
- The much-discussed film is slated for November 2026 theatrical debut.
