The Merseyside club Will Not Abandon Forward-Thinking Philosophy Despite Poor Run of Form, Declares Slot
Arne Slot has revealed that the team leadership agree with his assessment regarding the recent downturn and he refuses to compromise their forward-thinking philosophy in quest for a turnaround. The manager conceded that six defeats in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Pressure Mounting Throughout Tough Spell
Liverpool's coach recognized the pressure was on before his makeshift team exited the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he maintained that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or management structure following a substantial investment of almost £450m.
"They say similar things," commented the Liverpool boss, whose side will meet Real Madrid in the European competition and visit the Citizens in the domestic competition.
Squad Quality Stays Unchallenged
Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are all fit and completely set for the fixture list". He said that the summer investment in talents including Florian Wirtz and the Swedish striker, who is probably unavailable again against the Birmingham club through injury, had left the club "in an excellent position for the near future and the long-term future".
Gelling Difficulties
When questioned about why his team were taking so long to gel, he answered: "That question isn't constructive. 'What are the reasons?' I give an explanation and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify multiple factors why we are struggling for victories or experiencing losses as we do but, as I say every time, there are never enough excuses to have a results sequence as we had now."
- Regardless of whether I could come up with multiple factors
- Leading this club you must avoid losses
- The reality is six losses from seven matches
Defensive Numbers
Only Burnley (21) have conceded more clear opportunities from regular play this season than Liverpool (19). The table-toppers, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the defense has been too vulnerable and asserts there is no reason to abandon offensive philosophy for a cautious system after 10 games without a shutout.
"From my perspective we don't conceding a lot of chances so I don't see a reason to change our playing style entirely but we need to do better in not conceding goals," he declared.
Particular Cases
"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? When playing Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we hardly conceded a effort at our net. In each fixture we played until now we haven't allowed a numerous openings. Not at all. We do concede a somewhat more than the prior term but that stems from us being trailing by a goal so you play more openly. But overall I don't feel that our issue is that we allow too many opportunities. Our challenge is we don't score the openings we produce."
