The President Invites Families of Injured Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the executive mansion.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Call
The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist public safety in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” the principal, the head of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was kind, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event caused the administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop providing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor told the gathering at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
