The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger Regarding Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Earlier, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Required Changes
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: previously, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
