Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The 27-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 match record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
